In the Central Asian country of Afghanistan, poor sanitation and lack of access to clean water contribute to generally poor health outcomes. Combined with ongoing damage to the environment and increasingly prominent climate problems, the lack of clean water represents one of the most urgent social issues in Afghanistan today. Over the past several years, the Bayat Foundation has prioritized clean water projects alongside its other focus areas: education, maternal health care, and family services.

Most recently, the Bayat Foundation completed construction on four new water wells in the Arzan Qemat and Dashte-e-Barchi regions of Kabul. In April 2010, the foundation celebrated Earth Day by supporting female students at the Rabea-e-Balkhi and Soorya high schools as they planted flowers and trees on campus. The Bayat Foundation has also installed water wells in areas such as Herat City, Parwan province, Qala e Shahda, and several districts in Kabul.
