Afghan Wireless subscribers benefit from a fast and reliable mobile network spanning all 34 Afghan provinces. Since December 2014, Afghan Wireless Communication Company (AWCC) has expanded upon its 2G network by introducing 3.75G+ in more than a dozen regions throughout the country, and the provider’s 3G-enabled HD Voice Service now provides customers with unrivaled call quality. But in addition to its ever-improving technical capabilities, AWCC also offers a nearly endless array of specialty subscription services. From music to news to personal finance, Afghan Wireless subscribers hold a vast world of information and entertainment right in the palms of their hands.
International News
Afghan Wireless subscribers can stay up-to-date on current events across the globe with RASANA, Afghan Wireless’ subscription news service. Available in both Dari and Pashto, RASANA places the latest headlines, breaking news, and international stories at users’ fingertips. Subscribers can also use RASANA to instantly receive weather forecasts and currency exchange rate updates on their mobile devices.
Sports Updates
AWCC offers both monthly and daily packages for subscribers to receive cricket and football news, including scores and updates on teams around the world. By dialing a short code, subscribers can also listen to live commentary while their favorite teams are on the pitch.
Music Services
Afghanistan has no shortage of excellent musicians, and Afghan Wireless offers several ways for subscribers to enjoy their favorite songs. AWCC’s Callertone Music Service allows subscribers to download songs to use as their ringtones, and customers can set specific ringtones for their favorite contacts. Additionally, Afghan Wireless Caller Ring Back Tune (CRBT) lets subscribers choose the music that their friends and family hear when calling them. Available in both daily and monthly plans, the service includes the option to select a single default song, or play a song at random from the user’s music library. Customers can also opt to select a special song for a specific number or group of numbers.
Afghan Wireless also offers not one, but two subscription services for music fans on the go. Through World Radio “6677,” customers can listen to the latest hits at a rate of 1 AFN per minute, with discounts available to package subscribers.
Also available in both pay-as-you-go and subscription formats, AWCC’s Music On Demand offers access to a vast music library spanning several genres. The service allows subscribers to not only listen to songs, but also save their favorite albums, set a track as their Caller Ring Back Tune, and even dedicate songs to loved ones.
Gmail on SMS
Thanks to Afghan Wireless’ Gmail on SMS service, subscribers don’t need an Internet connection to access their Gmail accounts. This convenient subscription service allows users to read, reply, and forward emails from their inbox via text message, in addition to composing and sending new emails.
Lifestyle Content
Afghan Wireless subscribers can sign up to receive regular SMS updates on everything from currency exchange rates to recipes through one of many AWCC-affiliated lifestyle content providers. Infotainment offers subscription services for news, entertainment, sports, finance, and horoscopes. Subscribers can access similar services through Khazana, which also offers a portal for Islamic studies, as well as a ladies’ portal with tips on beauty, health, cooking, housekeeping, and more.
Afghan Wireless’ Lifestyle Content portals also present a wealth of information extending far beyond news and entertainment. Customers can sign up to practice their English vocabulary, grammar, and real-world conversation skills in the Learn English Portal, or they can explore local career prospects via the Job Portal. Recently, Afghan Wireless added Wikipedia to its extensive suite of subscription services, giving customers the ability to browse Wikipedia articles by simply sending an SMS message containing their desired keywords.
Kankor Exam Prep
The Kankor examination is an extremely important step for Afghan youth. The annual test has a significant bearing on students’ futures, as their performance on it largely determines their options for higher education. Depending on his or her test scores, a student may be eligible for admission into a government-sponsored university, a semi-higher education government institution, or a private university. Whatever their goals, AWCC aims to help students prepare for the Kankor exam with its SMS Kankor prep service. Subscribers can pay a simple daily subscription fee to receive as many as 30 SMS-based study tips specifically drafted for Afghan university entrance exams.
My Money
Afghan Wireless has spent over a decade providing much-needed telecommunications services to the people of Afghanistan, and in 2011, the company set out to deliver another valuable service. Seeking to provide a secure, convenient money management solution to the country’s large unbanked population, AWCC formed Afghan Besim Mobile Money Company (ABMMC), a wholly owned AWCC subsidiary and the administrator of the My Money mobile network.
My Money allows mobile subscribers to access a wide range of personal financial services through their smartphones. Via an integrated partnership with Maiwand Bank, My Money facilitates quick and secure personal money transfers, salary payments, and payments for goods and services. In the future, AWCC plans to add features for utility bill payment and international money transfers.
