The magazine is published in nearly 200 countries and showcases the world’s leading executives while providing critical information and insight regarding the global financial market.

Dr. Ehsan Bayat was recognized for his work in the telecommunications field as the founder of Ariana Television Network, which provides diverse programming for more than 20 million Afghanistan citizens. Dr. Bayat founded the Ariana Television Network in 2005, and he has grown the network into one of the largest private media channels in Afghanistan with over 20 million viewers. The content on ATN is rather unique but the majority of the programming focuses on children’s programming, health, and women’s issues, as well as education.

The award recognized his achievements in forging ahead and building forward-thinking communications companies that help Afghans communicate with each other and the rest of the world. Dr. Ehsan Bayat was also recognized for his establishment of the wireless carrier, Afghan Wireless (AWCC), the first of its kind in the country.

Afghan Wireless has become Afghanistan’s largest wireless communications company by providing internet, mobile payment services, and 4G LTE cellular service to millions of subscribers. In addition, Afghan Wireless has been noted as being the largest and most profitable part of Afghanistan’s economy and is responsible for 25 percent of all tax revenue collected in the country.

$250 Million, Three-Phase Investment Program

Another notable recent development involves Bayat Energy, which is an independently-owned exploration development and gas exploration development and production company.  In October 2016, Bayat Power, which is a subsidiary of Bayat Energy, executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. This event signified the beginning of a partnership between Bayat Power and the Republic for a three-phase, $250 million, independent power producer (IPP) investment program.

The first phase of the program, Bayat Power 1, will involve the completion of a 100-percent equity-financed power plant in the city of Sheberghan, the capital of Afghanistan’s Jowzjan Province. This gas-fired power plant will eventually provide the area with over 52-megawatt hours (Mwh) of capacity and is expected to have an operational life of at least 20 years. The final two phases of the project have yet to be publicly revealed, but they will assuredly build upon Bayat’s commitment to the development of oil and gas resources in the region.

The chairman of Bayat Power, Dr. Ehsan Bayat, expressed his excitement about the project. At the time of the MoU agreement, he indicated that this project is innovative, that it is privately-financed, and that it is the first of its kind in Afghanistan’s history. Dr. Bayat believes that this project will help aggregate the region’s bountiful gas and oil resources and solidify Afghanistan’s energy independence.

These are just some of the exciting things going on with Bayat Energy and other companies and foundations founded and managed by Dr. Ehsan Bayat. The company continues to thrive, building the Afghanistan gas and oil energy industry with the goal of giving the Afghan people access to affordable energy sources under Dr. Bayat’s leadership.
